Ostrava, 04.06.2017 – The University of Latvia Wind Band has reached a score of 95,4 out of 100 points at the 18. International wind band competition in Ostrava (Czech Republic) under the lead of conductors Jānis Puriņš and Jānis Kaģis. De orchestra has won the „Grand Prix” – a trumpet of the brand „Arnolds & Sons” and became the absolute winner of the competition.

Jelgava – 02.04.2017 – On April 1st and 2nd 2017 the fourth International wind band competition Baltic Open and the ninth Latvian wind band competition took place in Jelgava. 48 orchestras participated, including three international orchestras from Estonia and Lithuania. A total of 1700 musicians competed in four difficulty levels. In honor of composer Gunārs Ordelovskis (1927 – 1990) from Jelgava the obligatory pieces consisted of marches by the great Latvian composer, conductor and pedagogue to mark his 90th anniversary on the 28th of March.
