On December 10, 2023 at 16.00 at St. Martin’s Church, Riga, Slokas Street 34.
Since its establishment in 2008, the Latvian University Wind Orchestra has been performing concerts every year during Advent. The collective has performed in the St. Gertrude’s New Church, the Church of Jesus in Riga, the Riga Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Great Hall of the University of Latvia, as well as several times in the St. Martin’s Church, Riga. Together with the orchestra, choirs and soloists – vocalists and instrumentalists – always take part in the concerts.
Also this year, on the Second Advent, on December 10, the brass band of the University of Latvia with its conductors Jānis Puriņš and Māra Lemken will delight the audience at the St. Martin’s Church in Riga.
This time, the young cellist Lizete Amēlīja Olekša, vocalist Lioneta Roze and Ukrainian musician Anastasijas Timoščenko, whose instrument is the national instrument of Ukraine, the bandura, will join the concert.
The concert will feature both traditional Christmas melodies and music by Antonin Dvořák and David Maslanka. Songs by Latvian composer Andris Vecumnieks for soloist with brass band will also be played. Of course, a big surprise will be the playing of the Ukrainian national instrument bandura with the brass band in the performance of the young Ukrainian musician Anastasijas Timoščenko.
We invite all those interested to the concert “Music during Advent” on December 10, 2023 at 16.00 at Rīga Mārtiņa’s Church, Slokas Street 34.
Entrance to the concert is free.
